  1. R.E.M.'s third album Fables Of The Reconstruction, could only have been recorded by one band, and is one of Michael Stipe's favourite LPs.
  2. By , Athens, GA-based group R.E.M. had already laid the groundwork for the alternative rock sound they helped pioneer with their two college radio-approved albums. They decided to switch things up a bit on their third album, Fables of the Reconstruction, by recording it in London with legendary folk-music producer Joe Boyd. Although the process ultimately proved uncomfortable for the band.
  3. View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the Cassette release of Fables Of The Reconstruction on Discogs/5(3).
  4. Fables of the Reconstruction is a great, great, recurring album. It has moved from my least fave REM album to my favourite- though Up is a close contender. Sure they couldn't make this jangly-folk inflected dreamsludge forever, and they went on to bigger and better things- but this album /5(33).
  5. Fables of the Reconstruction, the fourth record by R.E.M., invites similarly non-specific praise. One absorbs the sound of these songs, one by one, mood by mood, without being greatly concerned.
  6. Jul 14,  · Fables is the end of the line for that particular strain of R.E.M. song-- within a year, these guys would move on to making their own brand of arena rock on Lifes Rich Pageant, never to return to.
  7. As R.E.M. albums from the IRS years go, this is not my absolute favourite, but it is still very good. The thing that always has bothered me about this album is that the vocals seemed overpowered by the music, especially in Maps and Legends/5().
  8. Fables of the Reconstruction, an Album by R.E.M.. Released 13 July on Capitol (catalog no. 22; CD). Genres: Jangle Pop, Alternative Rock.
